On this trip, the goal was to see and take pictures of the Mont Saint-Michel in France. And on the way back home we would visit a couple of villages on the northwest coast. On the journey there and the day at the Mont, it turned out hot and clear blue skies. On top of that it turned to to be a French holiday weekend. This would mean a lot of people! As it turned out, a friendly local advised us to show up early if I wanted to take pictures as from about 10 a.m. the place would be swarmed (and hard to find a parking spot). So happy we were able to follow that advice. By the time the crowds showed up, we went for an early lunch and decided to drive around the Mont for some different views. And we drove a bit further to Pointe du Grouin, which lies west of the Mont Saint-Michel. Unfortunately the crowds were there too but I managed to find a few nice compositions anyway. In the evening after having a nice dinner near the Mont Saint-Michel we decided to wait for the sunset. Despite any presence of clouds I did find a spot and tried to get the sun touch the spire of the abbey church. When some other travellers saw what I was doing (I had to move to keep the sun above the spire) several followed my example. But I feel I had the best spot all the time! The next day we went back north along the coast and visited Étretat and Veules-les-Roses. But again it turned out to be the wrong time at the right place. The roads were crowded, so we looked at Étretat early in the morning and Veules-les-Roses in the later afternoon. In the end I came home with a nice set of images even though the circumstances were not ideal. Better research to be done next time!
